Asset management

'Digital asset management' should be at the backbone of all publishing strategies. DAM systems are large relational databases with a wide range of functionality to ingest, manage, store and output digital files. DAM systems enable users to process, categorize, find, use and reuse assets quickly and effectively.

John Temple Systems have experience in implementing a web-based digital asset management system for a major UK educational publisher. The solution was specifically designed to optimize the reuse potential for their digitally archived images.

This digital asset management system supports standard image file formats (EPS, TIFF, JPEG) and utilizes standard IPTC meta-data via a software process that manipulates information (e.g. title, author, copyright, keywords), which is stored in a JPEG file.

Images can be batch processed and uploaded directly to a web server. Thumbnail and low-resolution preview images are created automatically for display via a web browser, and linked directly to the original high-resolution 'print-ready' file.

The system facilitates both quick and advanced searches and also provides users with a browse option by category.
